Enrolments

In Term 2 2017, Chifley Public School has 56 students who identify as Aboriginal; representing 33% of the school population.

Koori parent meetings

Our first Koori parent meeting for 2017 was held on Wednesday 29 March. The parents/carers at the meeting discussed Reconciliation and NAIDOC week celebrations. They are very happy with the programs being implemented at the school, like the culture, community and curriculum project (CCCP) and didge group, and are also excited about the programs being offered by the Aboriginal education and engagement team, like the dance workshop and yarn up.

Personalised learning plans

Personalised learning plans have been written for 50 students so far. The remaining 6 students are in the process of creating their personalised learning plan in consultation with parents/carers, class teacher, Pauline and the Aboriginal coordinator.

Koori art expressions

Our performing arts teacher, Melissa Carroll, attended the workshop at the art gallery. She is looking forward to working with the students, Pauline, Kirsty and  Aunty Maxine to complete our entries.

Reconciliation Week

This year we are celebrating Reconciliation Week with a variety of cultural activities being  implemented in our classrooms with assistance from our community members. We are holding a Walk-a-thon and the Aboriginal students will be running the whole school Assembly. At the Assembly we will be acknowledging the many talents and achievements of our students at Chifley Public School.

Sorry Day will be acknowledged with a special ceremony at school and our new Principal David North,  Pauline Beller and Stage 3 students will be attending the Commemoration Service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans at the Anzac Memorial Hyde Park.
